Dumbbell shrugs are my favorite trap exercise. I know this is a really simple exercise and it seems silly to make a video showing how to do it but I have gotten many requests for it. This is an easy exercise to do at home, all you need is a set of used dumbbells.
Here is the way I suggest doing the dumbbell shrug.
1) Grab the dumbbells with your palms facing in
2) let the weights hang at your side
3) keep your arms straight, dont bend the elbow
4) put your shoulders back, try to squeeze your shoulder blades together
5) go up and down slowly, as far up and far down as you can
6) dont roll the shoulders!!!!
Anyone can be healthier, have more energy, sleep better, and feel better about themselves through bodybuilding. Bodybuilding doesn't have to be expensive or take a lot of time, gyms are great but home workouts can save you time and money. A cheap dumbbell set from a garage sale or walmart is all it takes to get started with your home workouts.

If you want to build your traps you can look no further than shoulder shrugs.
Make sure you keep your arms completely straight and lift your shoulders as high as they possibly can go.
Make sure you squeeze at the top of the motion for a split second.
If you have forward head posture shoulder shrugs is not the best exercise.

The high pull is the 2nd pull of the power clean. It is used to train that part of the power clean and snatch.
The hang high pull is not only for Olympic lifters or athletes.
Even if you aren't looking to increase explosive power, the explosive high pull is great for getting a great contraction for the traps.
The traps work you get from the high pull is different than most other exercises.
You should take a wider than shoulder overhand grip.
The shrug should be the first part of the high pull but you will do it automatically as you explode. Your energy should be transfered through your whole body from your feet.

A friend of mine, Tom Venuto has been incorporating these type of power movements into his own program. And he has been sharing it with his "Burn The Fat" Inner Circle members.

I started doind it back in 1983 as a powermovement for football. We were taught the big 3, squats, deadlift, and hang-clean.
The Hang Clean is a vital part of a healthy FATLOSS LIFESTYLE. You can work-out till your blue in the face but if you do not incorporate Interval Cardio (done first thing in the morning in a fasted state), intense functional multi-joint, compound movements, small healthy meals often with protein and carbs combined together, positive mindset, goal setting & social support (you will turn into who you hang around) you will not change your body much.
But if you do focus on the 5 pillars of fitness & health, you will radically change your waistline, your lifestyle, and your life.

I know I promised an advanced pushup video next, its halfway done - filming the video wiped me out with all the retakes so I couldnt finish it in one session.
This video shows how to do barbell rows. Dont attempt these if you have lower back problems, stick to the pullups. While we are on the subject of pullups, these barbell rows are no substitute for pullups. When it comes to building lats, pullups are king!
Keys to good form on the barbell row:
1) keep your back motionless
2) keep your abs flexed and tight to support your lower back
3) make sure to breathe, dont hold your breath
4) pull the bar to your hip, not your shoulders
5) use a slow, smooth motion - no jerking
By the way, I know I screwed up twice and said "dumbbell row" where I meant "barbell row". I didnt bother re-filming becuase I figured it wouldnt cause any confusion.
