Spencer and Pipistrello are, of course, acting. But the reactions are all genuine. We discover that people feel so sorry for adorable Spencer that they're willing to "white lie" to protect him from a lunatic dad. It's also amazing that almost nobody, because of the awkward moment, noticed the camera which was not hidden.
