This is a video of a Rube Goldberg ballot-casting machine with an entertainment theme. My Jac-Cen-Del High School team ...This is a video of a Rube Goldberg ballot-casting machine with an entertainment theme. My Jac-Cen-Del High School team made it in 2004. This machine received 4th place in the National High School Rube Goldberg Competition. We were actually graded down for using so much technology, as some of the judges thought it was too technical. They were right to do so, as so much technology is not in the true Rube Goldberg spirit (you never saw a microcontroller in one of his cartoons). We are still glad we did it the way we did.

Camera work also leaves more to be desired but you can see the steps. This machine was supposed to go bowling but it only knocked down one pin! I think it's kind of funny so I won't redo it. This was my most reliable machine, it only took three tries to work!
Here are the steps:
1)I put a marble in a wooden marble game and it slides down and moves a screw.
2)The screw is pulled by a magnet and hits a wooden marble block with a marble on it. The marble falls in and knocks down a domino on the way out.
3)The dominoes fall down and then hit a toy train (which has been in all my machines so far) and moves a wooden block.
4)The block goes over a track made for a marble and moves to knock down some dominoes. Those hit another one of those marble blocks and a marble falls in.
5)The marble travels down a track and hit some dominoes which make a 90 degree left turn and make another marble go down the track.
6)That marble hits a domino with another marble which ricochets off. This is repeated to gain momentum.
7)The marble nicks the bottom of a sideways domino which falls down and sets off a chain. One domino hits a stick with a holes with a screw in the middle and rotates it to hit some more dominoes.
8)The dominoes knock down a wooden block which falls upon a train which rolls down a track.
9)The train hits another stick which rotates to hit another. The second stick then moves an upwards facing stick back releasing a screw to roll down a plastic sheet.
10)The screw knocks down a wooden block which jostles a marble out of it's place and sets off a "domino" run.
11)A N64 cartridge hits a bowling ball which rolls down to hit some bowling pins.
12)STRIIIIIKE! Whoops I mean one pin down.(more)(less)

This was our final project for Mr. Mac's AP Physics class. Our task was to design and build a Rube Goldberg machine of ...This was our final project for Mr. Mac's AP Physics class. Our task was to design and build a Rube Goldberg machine of some kind, and we chose to use ours to launch an Estes rocket. After multiple failures, one major design change, and two lost rockets, we had success.
The video was filmed using multiple cameras and angles in order to give you the best view. While you may suspect that this was done to edit out our failures, it was actually done because it was impossible to catch it all at once. This machine did work all the way through.(more)(less)

This is an entry in Cadbury's "Unleash The Goo" competition, in which entrants must find the most creative way to break a creme egg.

Here are some answers to questions people keep asking me:
- the ringing ball comes out of the red flipping box.
- the painting tilts, which causes the top ball to run down it.
- a keen eye will notice the egg unravels out of its foil wrapping.
- at around 1:52, the balls are rolling behind a sheet of glass that is at a slight angle so that the balls have to revolve a lot just to move a small amount.
- it took about 6 months to make and 3 days / 200 takes to film.
Much credit must be give to the amazing Pitagora Suicchi ones for all their original ideas!(more)(less)
