The echos on Archie/Daughtry's mike were up high. So I did an experiment. I placed Cook's anthem into karaoke with the echo way up. His anthem performance was PERFECT! I mean PERFECT with the echo way up high. So Cook did EXCELLENT. His mike (speaker/amplifier) needs to have the ECHO all the way UP like Archie & Daughtry's mikes. Cook's is a pretty basic anthem with no RUNS or fancy vocal tricks but sounds utterly amazing on ECHO especially the last part. Yes, the first 2-3 notes were shaky but the rest was outstanding for an anthem that was sung the way it should be. Cook is a BRILLIANT artist as usual and has utter respect for our national anthem. He sang the national anthem the way it should be sung and not made it his own. Cook, as a contestant in American Idol was WELL KNOWN for changing original songs from artists to make them his own and he was known for doing covers of covers. For this anthem, Cook knew that out of respect for the anthem, he decided that the national anthem should be sung straight like how it was originally sung. Cook can do anything he wants with the national anthem and rock it out but he didn't. He can change it like how he did with ABMB from Mariah or Hello from Lionel but he didn't. He sang it straight and if the public does not like singing an anthem straight and decides to treat him like a piece of dirt then that's the public's decision. However, we all know that Cook is a true artist, thus the title of American Idol. Cook is true to the anthem and he believed in not messing up the anthem. If others didn't believe in what he did, then there is nothing he can do but move on and pursue his love for music. Anyone seeing Cook sing for the first time should know that as the AMERICAN IDOL winner, Cook SMASHED records in the Billboard charts. No one in AI history has accomplished this before. "The seventh season winner of the popular TV series rewrites chart history in a number of ways... Those 11 charted songs on the Hot 100 give Cook the highest number of titles on the survey in a single week since the Beatles placed 14 songs on the list in 1964." Some of these people below are professional writers that have heard hundreds of national anthems sung before. TV GUIDE "Cook told reporters before belting out the 'Star Spangled Banner' at the beginning of the game. Could have fooled us -- there's not a hint of nerves in that voice!" PEOPLE "But the Idol winner nailed the vocally and lyrically tricky anthem -- and was spotted backstage looking relieved." LAKERS BLOG - sportswriter blogging the game "I'll say this- if the Lakers play as well as the guy from American Idol sang the anthem, they'll be in good shape. Solid work from AI guy." ESPN COLUMNIST (and remember he has heard many celebs singing the National Anthem) "Really, only one thing stood out: David Cook singing the national anthem with "I love being famous, I am getting laid nonstop" vigor.
