YouTube caught red-handed censoring videos. YouTube uses a wide array of sneaky techniques to stop certain videos from reaching the front pages and gaining more exposure. In this instance (which is just one of many), YouTube blocks the View Counter so that the video doesn't appear in the most-viewed lists. I have personally experienced this myself with many of my videos. This is how it works: On all videos, the "RATINGS" and "FAVORITES" counters are updated in near real-time. So if you rate a video, then check back a few minutes later, you'll see that your rating was indeed added to the total. It's the same for the Favorites counter and the "CHANNEL VIEWS" counter. But when it comes to the video view counter that is displayed below each video, this counter only gets updated between 1 and 4 times daily. Why doesn't the video view counter get updated in real-time like the rest of the counters? There's only ONE reason. YouTube does this because it gives them the opportunity to fiddle the viewing figures on any videos that it doesn't want to see in the most-viewed lists. When you upload a video and examine the view counter, you'll see that the number of views does indeed update in real-time, but as soon as that number reaches about 200 or so, the counter freezes and it will not update again for 12 or even 24 hours. So, if you upload a video that's really popular (but YouTube doesn't like it), and it gets 100,000 views in the first 24 hours, YouTube will simply freeze the counter and not update it for a day. And when they do eventually update the counter, you'll find that it only goes up by a few hundred, or maybe a thousand if you're lucky -- even though your video has received many thousands of ratings and comments. This sneaky method of censorship is so crude and it does YouTube's reputation no good whatsoever. If they want to resort to such pathetic and obvious tactics to censor free-speech then why don't they openly admit to it in their terms of use? What does this say about the people who run YouTube? Think about it. They don't even allow you to email them anymore, and even when you could email them, you'd be lucky to get back an automated pre-written reply. How come nobody at YouTube has the guts to put themselves on camera and talk to their users? What kind of dark shaddowy people are they to hide behind the fa�ade of a web server while imposing their fascist censorship on us? YouTube was made famous by the people who use it. It is US that made YouTube what it is today. Proposal for YouTube Community video rating system. How do you think videos should be rated for content? I propose the ... Proposal for YouTube Community video rating system. How do you think videos should be rated for content? I propose the following rating system be used. A - adu*lt content including adu*lt material being discussed or shown N - Nudity or frontal nudity; for adu*lts only X - Sex or s*xuality which may include nudity PG13 - Is not deemed appropriate for viewing by anyone under 13 years of age. A PG13 video may be deemed such because of profanity, the topic discussed, violence (as a video from a war or news report) or any other reason that the viewer thinks the content is not appropriate for children. T - Trash, any video which is deemed by the community to be trash and not worth watching. A "T-rated" or Trash video may also have content deemed offensive because of the content, regardless of the nature of that content. x*x - These videos would be deemed obscene or p*rnographic. F - Family audience. Appropriate for general viewing by anyone (This is the category which all other videos fall into by default.) I think is this or a similar content based rating system were employed it would enable more people from a diverse world-wide audience to enjoy YouTube without the need for censorship. Each time a person gives a rating these would be automatically counted and the totals shown so that everyone may know how the YouTube community rates a video. What is interesting about such a rating system is that legally it is the community which determines what content is regarded as p*rnographic or obscene. By empowering the YouTube community to rate the content of videos, then YouTube would be able to set up an automated system to remove any videos, such as those that the community standard rates as x*x. Say a video is rated x*x 1,000 times, then it may automatically be flagged. Then YouTube editors could review the video and if they agree the content is x*x and not permitted by their TOS agreement, appropriate action could be taken, as by deleting the video. Then perhaps an automated system could be established to even suspend an account, say if someone repeatedly uploads videos that are x*x rated 1,000 times by the YouTube community. What is interesting about such a rating system is that it permits the community to rate the videos and the community to set the standard. Therefore the editors of YouTube are not the censors; the community gets to say how videos are rated. This would allow a greater diversity of content, even if some of that content may be "Trash" or not really appropriate for children. Others may have their own ideas for how the YouTube Community may rate videos. How do you think videos should be rated?
