Thiruvananthapuram: Popular pop singer Usha Uthup said she and her supporters were hurt by a remark of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan.
Vijayan, irritated by his party workers who had gone berserk during a public meeting at Kottayam last week, admonished them that it was not Usha Uthup's programme but the meeting of the communists.
"I don't think it was an ordinary remark. It has hurt me. Responsible people should not make such remarks. I have no political agenda. My agenda is only music and through it to make people happy," said the singer to reporters here Sunday.
The people in the crowd were seen dancing with the photo of Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan during his address at the concluding day of the four-day party conference at Kottayam.

Abu Dhabi: At least three people were killed and nearly 350 injured in a horrific 60 vehicle pile-up on the Abu Dhabi-Dubai highway near Ghantoot on Tuesday.
However, Gulf News has learnt that the death toll could be five. The 25km stretch of the UAE's busiest highway from Abu Dhabi to Dubai was closed for more than five hours, resulting in huge tailbacks during rush hours.
Police said among the 347 injured, six people were critical, while 39 suffered medium injuries. The remaining suffered minor injuries. Police said 25 vehicles caught fire following the accidents caused by poor visibility due to the thick fog and lack of attention by motorists.

Bakshish Singh was talking after seeing at close quarters the 60-car pile-up, which claimed three lives and left 317 injured according to Abu Dhabi Police. Many of the injured are still critical after what is believed to be the UAE's biggest ever traffic smash, which occurred in thick fog close to Ghantoot yesterday morning.
"People were lying on the floor and were screaming for their lives. Some of them were struggling to get out of their vehicles after the doors got jammed because of the impact of the accident, while others were stuck between the seats and shouting for help. Everything was very frightening," he said. "Cars were burning all over the place. It was like a battlefield where bombs rip up vehicles. The scene was bloody carnage."

31 Indians injured in Dubai car crash
Dubai (PTI): At least 31 Indians were injured, including three critically, in a series of collision involving 200 cars due to heavy fog on the Abu Dhabi-Dubai highway.
Earlier reports put the number of dead at between six and eight, but late Tuesday night the authorities confirmed only three people died in one of the worst road accidents in the UAE.
The accident took place early Tuesday at Ghantoot on the border between Abu Dhabi and Dubai because of poor visibility.
Due to the impact of collision, about 25 cars caught fire, police said. According to officials in the Indian embassy, none of the dead include Indians, but unconfirmed reports said there were two Indians among the dead.
Srinivas Babu, first secretary in the Indian embassy in Abu Dhabi, told PTI that the injured Indians were admitted in various hospitals of Abu Dhabi (22 in Mafraq hospital, 6 Rahba Hospital, 2 Khalifa Hospital) and one in Rashid Hospital in Dubai.
Babu said the embassy is in constant touch with the local authorities to provide relief to the injured and to know details about the accident.
Khamis I Mohammad, deputy of traffic and patrol Abu Dhabi police said, "It was a disaster scene, everyone was speeding and after the first crash happened people just started hitting each other."

Violent clashes between the cadres of the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) started Wednesday and seven deaths have been reported.
Mammootty told that he and Mohanlal have issued a joint statement, asking the people of Kannur to maintain peace and calm.
"We are prepared to do anything to see that calm returns. I also think that as soon as calm returns in Kannur, a delegation of the film fraternity should visit the affected areas and speak to the people to see that these things are not repeated," Mammootty said.
On Thursday, three people were killed when workers of the CPI-M and the BJP clashed in Thalassery town and its surrounding areas following an attack on a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader. A CPI-M activist's body was recovered Friday.
Kannur district has been a hotbed of political violence between the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and the RSS.
A group of people attacked RSS leader Sumesh in Thalassery town Wednesday afternoon.
The BJP observed Friday as a 'protest day', alleging that the CPI-M has unleashed a violent campaign in Kannur district against the saffron party.
Leader of opposition Oommen Chandy, meanwhile, is to sit on fast at Kannur Sunday, appealing for peace.

The central leadership has reasons to be worried as the dominant Pinarayi Vijayan faction has made it clear to the AKG Bhawan bosses that it will not put up with ceasefire directives from the centre if chief minister V S Achuthanandan refuses to mend his ways.
The central leadership had on Wednesday intervened to stall the telecasting of an interview on the party-run channel that virtually demolished chief minister V S Achuthanandan's sanctimonious image.The interview with a controversial businessman Faris Aboobaker claimed that the chief minister had approached the businessman for personal favours.
The chief minister, who got wind of the plans to nail him, had got in touch with the AKG Bhawan bosses. But the state leadership refused to intervene and stall the telecast of the interview, maintaining that it was a purely journalistic enterprise.
The development is a slap on the face of the central leadership. It had hoped that its tough action of suspending both V S Achuthanandan and his rival Pinarayi Vijayan from the polit bureau would dissuade the two factions from washing dirty political linen in public. The two sides, in fact, have only stepped up attempts to stigmatise each other in the past few weeks.
The chief minister has been resorting to name-calling for attacking opponents he cannot otherwise deal with. Employing the Left's label of painting the rival as a deviant, the chief minister said the party-run channel was providing platforms to "hated" individuals. The attempt was clearly to strip away credibility from the opinions expressed by the TV channel and the journalists working for the party-controlled organisation.
The fallout of this raging factional feud in the Kerala unit of the CPM is a paralysis of governance. The chief minister has been treating important ministers in his government as factionalists. On their part, the ministerial colleagues of Mr Achuthandan are not making things easy for the chief minister.

One of the investors at the project said it would be some time before the cause of the fire was found, but initial indications pointed to faulty machinery.
